If you are taking a cruise to Alaska then you are in store for some wonderful things!  However before you go it is always wise to know what to expect, so here are a few important things one should know before taking a cruise to Alaska.

During the cruise season from May to September temperatures vary anywhere from 40 degrees Fahrenheit to 70 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and drop into the 30’s and 40’s at night.  The best way to adjust to these temperature changes is to dress in layers while on your cruise.   Some days the weather may be nice and really sunny and other days you may experience rain.  It just depends on the day and the time of year you decide to go on your cruise.

A few things that would be wise to pack are sunglasses, good socks, a waterproof jacket, a long sleeve shirt, comfortable footwear for hiking and walking in wet conditions, a warm hat, gloves, sunscreen, insect repellent, umbrella, camera, backpack, binoculars.

Days on board your cruise tend to be very casual so you would probably be most comfortable in jeans and layering a few shirts.  You might not want to wear heels as this will prove to make participating in some activities difficult.  For evening wear there are three types of attire that will be considered appropriate.  These are casual: dresses or slacks and a blouse for women, nice dress pants and a dress shirt for men.  Smart casual:  Dresses or pantsuits for women, jackets for men.  Formal:  Cocktail dresses for women, tuxedos or suits and ties for men.

Something important to know is that all citizens no matter what their age are now required to carry and show a passport when checking in at different places.  So make sure that you and your family members have an up to date passport, and yes this is even including infants.  If you are a citizen from another country make sure that you also have a valid passport and your Visa card present as well.

These are only a few important things to know when taking an Alaskan cruise.  If you have a specific question about something concerning your cruise or are wondering if there is something else that you should or shouldn’t bring with you on your cruise most cruise line websites have a printable brochure that you can print off that list a number of items that would be wise to bring.
