How to Dress for an Alaska Cruise
There are many different things you have to consider when going on an Alaskan cruise, however one thing that some people overlook is how to dress. It's extremely important because you want to be comfortable the entire time, and part of that is knowing what to wear. Many people don't know quite what to expect when it comes to this type of situation. Alaska is associated with the cold, while a cruise suggests that it might be warm. So how exactly do you decide?
Although it does get pretty cold, you won't have to pack an extremely weighty heavy winter coat. Many people have this image of Alaska as this baron winter snow-covered land, but the truth is that in the summer the average temperature is around 60 degrees Fahrenheit. One thing you should be prepared for is rain, however, because it will inevitably rain on your cruise.
A majority of your trip will be spent in the inside Passage, which recieves around 100 inches of rain per year. So let's go over some of the things you can expect and will need to prepared for. You already know what it will rain at some point on your trip, but it can also get warm, so make sure to make summer or spring clothes as well. You'll be most likely on the desk for long period of time, it won't be winter weather, just a little cool. Strangely enough, in Alaska the farther up north you go, the warmer it actually gets.
In the city of Anchorage, the temperature there averages at around 65 degrees Fahrenheit, and in some places such as Fairbanks, the average temperature can get up into the 70's during the summer. It's really a good idea to pack for all sorts of weather, just in case. You don't want to be unprepared when you are on a cruise and not able to purchase any clothes for a while. Another thing you might want to consider is bringing sunblock with you. Most people don't think to do this on an Alaskan cruise, because of their misconceptions about what Alaska is like even in the summer, but you should be prepared for the sun coming out when you are on the deck. Protecting yourself from sunburn is an important part of ensuring that your trip will be one that you can enjoy, not spend the entire time rubbing lotion on yourself in your room.
One thing you definitely will not need is a winter coat, so you can leave that behind. Just keep in mind that you will get rain and it will be slightly warm, so dress accordingly. When considering how to dress for an Alaskan cruise, just expect the unexpected. It's always good to be prepared, so pack both t-shirts, shorts, as well as pants and long-sleeved shirts and a light jacket. Before you go on your cruise, you might want to check the predicted temperatures of where you plan on being on your trip as well. The more research you do about the weather and what to expect temperature-wise, the better you will be prepared and the more you will enjoy your trip.
